Coordinate geometry is a system of geometry where the use of pair of numbers in a fixed order helps to give position of points on the plane. The position of a point on a  plane (flat surface) is described by coordinate geometry and it tells where the point is by two numbers. A coordinate helps to locate a point on the coordinate grid by its distance from 2 intersecting straight lines. The coordinate grid has x axis the horizontal number line and y axis the vertical number line. Coordinates are written is specific order with the x axis number first then y axis number.

Example 1: Explain how to plot (2, -2) coordinates on the coordinate grid.

Solution: To plot the coordinates (2, -2) we first have to identify the order.

=> Step 1 is to plot the 1st number 2 which is the x number moving to the right since number is positive.

=> Step 2 is to plot the 2nd number -2, which is y number moving to the down since number is negative. Given in fig 1 Example 2: Explain how to plot (-4, -2) coordinates on the coordinate grid.

Solution: To plot the coordinates (-4, -2) we first have to identify the order.

=> Step 1 is to plot the 1st number -4 which is the x number moving to the left since number is negative.
