Congruent segment is a very effective tool in understanding the concept of transformation from one figure to another. Congruent segments are basically the line segments which are congruent to each other. Congruent triangles are basically made with the congruent segments only. If we will consider one individual congruent segment then we can see the real effect of transformation.

Example 1: Explain the sequence of transformation from figure A to B.

Figure A coordinates are (-4, 3), (-4, 2), and (-4, 1) Figure B coordinates are (1, 4), (2, 4), and (3, 4)

Solution: In the given problem

Figure A is a line which when rotated 270 degrees

(-4, 3), (-4, 2), and (-4, 1) = (-5, 2), (-4, 2) and (-3, 2)

Then it is moved

(-5, 2), (-4, 2), and (-3, 2) = (1, 4), (2, 4) and (3, 4) we get Figure B

Example 2: Explain the sequence of transformation from figure 1 to 2.

Figure 1 coordinates are (1, 1), (1, 2), (2,2) and (2, 3) Figure 2 coordinates are (1, 1), (2, 1), (2,0) and (3, 0)

Solution: In the given problem

Figure 1 is a line which when rotated 90 degrees to right around (1, 1)

(1, 1), (1, 2), (2,2) and (2, 3) = (1,1), (2,1), (2,0) and (3,0)

Then we get

(1, 1), (2, 1), (2, 0) and (3, 0) = (1, 1), (2, 1), (2, 0) and (3, 0) we get Figure 2.
